Female condom products under development

The Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) has developed a new female condom product, the Woman’s Condom, which is currently being tested for efficacy in the United States.

Unapproved female condom products currently available

The products listed here have not undergone efficacy trials nor been approved for contraception or HIV/STI prevention and should not be used for this purpose.

The only female condom product that has been proven safe and effective for preventing pregnancy and HIV/STIs is the FC Female Condom®.

Reddy


Medtech Health Products, Ltd., India
The Reddy Female Condom was developed by Medtech, Inc. This one-size device is made of latex and uses a soft polyurethane sponge to aid insertion and a firm, flexible outer ring intended to hold it in place during intercourse. It is being marketed under the V Amour brand name in Africa and L’amour in South America. It is also approved for distribution in Brazil, Europe and India.

The Panty Condom® is a panty with a replaceable pantyliner containing a condom made of synthetic resin. The condom is inserted by the man’s penis, and the panty itself can be reused with another condom for additional acts of intercourse.
